Where is Moonberry jewellery made and by who?
Moonberry jewellery is made at a dining table in a home on the east side of Christchurch. The maker behind Moonberry is Melanie, who also runs the Makers & Creators market.
What type of jewellery does Moonberry sell?
Moonberry offers one-of-a-kind sterling silver rings and pendants, Austrian crystal earrings and bracelets, and a seasonal range of resin earrings, especially at Christmas.
Is all Moonberry jewellery handmade?
Yes, although the level of craftsmanship varies depending on the style.
Sterling silver rings and pendants are made from scratch using the lost-wax method. Each design is shaped in jeweller’s wax, cast in solid silver, then polished to perfection (with a whole lot of steps in between!). The collection includes plain silver designs as well as pieces set with gemstones.
Austrian crystal earrings and bracelets use base-metal settings made by a jewellery manufacturer to my specifications. I then complete each piece by setting the stones using prongs or jeweller’s glue, depending on the style.
Resin earrings are created from scratch using epoxy resin, often with glitter or other embellishments. These ranges are mostly seasonal, with Christmas earrings being the most popular.
Where are gemstones and crystals sourced from?
Crystals are purchased from an authorised distributor in Europe. Only premium Austrian crystals are used in designs.
Most gemstones are lab-grown and sourced from suppliers in New Zealand or Australia. These include sapphires, spinel, nano stones, and zirconia, with occasional natural gems such as Brazilian amethyst.
Can I shop online?
The intention was to have an online store up and running by now, but taking on a few too many projects has slowed the process. With Christmas market season underway and at least one market each weekend, the online store has been put on hold. The plan is to launch online shopping in the new year.
